Open die forging

Open die forging is a processing method that uses simple, universal tools or applies external force directly

to the billet between the upper and lower anvils of a forging machine to deform the billet and obtain the desired geometric shape and internal quality of the forging.

Forgings produced with the open die forging method are called free forged parts.

Open die forging is mainly used for producing forgings in small batches. Which uses forging equipment such as forging hammers and hydraulic presses to shape and process billets to obtain qualified forgings.

The basic processes of open die forging include upsetting, drawing, punching, cutting, bending, twisting, shifting, and forging. Free forging always employs hot forging methods.

The regularly used materials are : Carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum and cooper alloy

The open forging weight is less than 40Tons

The die forging weight is between 0.2-30kgs

Surface finish: shot blasting, painting, powder coating, galvanizing
