Free forging
Free forging is a processing method that uses impact force or pressure to make the metal freely deform in all directions between the upper and lower anvil surfaces without any restriction to obtain the required shape, size and certain mechanical properties of forgings, referred to as free forging.
Free forging uses simple tools and equipment, good versatility, and low cost. Compared with casting blanks, free forging eliminates the defects of shrinkage cavity, shrinkage porosity, pores, etc., so that the blank has higher mechanical properties. The shape of the forging is simple and the operation is flexible. Therefore, it has special significance in the manufacture of heavy machinery and important parts.
Die forging
Die forging refers to a forging method that uses a mold to form a blank on a dedicated die forging equipment to obtain a forging. The forgings produced by this method have precise dimensions, small machining allowances, complex structures and high productivity.
The die forging process has high production efficiency, low labor intensity, precise size, small machining allowance, and can forge forgings with complex shapes; it is suitable for mass production. However, the cost of the mold is high, and special forging equipment is required, which is not suitable for single-piece or small-batch production.
